He graduated from RMC Duntroon in 1945 and completed his career with rank of Major. Assignments included "Occupation Forces-Japan (where he met his American bride ), National Service training, Puckapunyal Korea - 3rd Battalion, Instructor-Office Cadet School, Portsea, Malaya with the British Army, Duntroon Instructor, Command HQ Perth & Melbourne, Army HQ Canberra, Army Staff, Australian Embassy Washtington DC, and HQ 1st Division & 2nd Division, Sydney." He was brought up on a 200 acre "mixed dairy farm" in Victoria, attended a two-room primary school until grade 8, then boarded at Alexandra High and Melbourne Boy's High. In Melbourne joined AirTraining Corps as a beginning pilot. Then 3 years in the OfficerTraining Course at Duntroon. (NaroomRotary.)
