INFO OBITUARY. Marlborough Express, 28 Jul 1932. Mr. Arthur James Farmar. Died yesterday at residence on Beaver Road, age 69. Born in Blenhiem, 3d son of Mrs. Farmar of Christchurch and late F.T. Farmar who ... conducted business on the Grove Road site now occupied by Marlborough Brewery Co. Educated in Blenheim. Studied navigation and served apprenticeship on N.Z. Shipping Co. ship Waitangi and Orari. In 1883 joined staff of Fell Bros & Co., Blenheim merchant firm, and became partner. When firm sold to Levin & Co., he took up farming -- properties on Lower Wairau and Lake Grassmere, then Altamarlock, and later the Leatham. Abt 20 yr ago, took over agency for Cooper & Son, seedsman. Retired recently. For a short time, a member of the Borough Council. Married Jessie Worthington at Havelock 42 yr ago. Two of four children survive, Mrs. Duncan Pattie of Dillon's Point and Mrs. C. Bradley of Auckland. Only son Noel killed in action in France. Mrs. Farmar and dtr Rona died in drowning on the Opawa River 22 yrs ago. Abt 17 yr ago married Mrs. B. Haybittle of Palmerston North, the former Miss B. Slattery of Blenheim. Survived by widow, mother age 91 in Christchurch, brothers F.B. Farmar of Blenheim, Captain Frank Farmar, master of the Port Fairey and senior skipper for the Port and Dominion Line, Charles Farmar of Canterbury, and sisters Mrs. S. Broadbent of Te Kawa, King Country, Mrs. Nairn, widow of Dr. Nairn of Blenheim, now of Wellington, Mrs. W.R. Scott of Blenheim and Mrs. H.W. Horton of Blenheim.
