Schoolteacher, university professor, classicist, writer. --summary: b. 6 July 1903 Birmingham England, son of Edward and Florence Tromans Blaiklock. Family emigrated to NZ 1909 arriving Aug. Oct 1910 purchased farm near Titirangi. Farm sold 1920. Education beginning 1910 Avondale Side School in Blockhouse Bay, also Avondale School and New Lynn School. 1917 Auckland Grammar School. Also Auckland Training College and BA degree at Auckland University College. 1921 conversion to Christianity. Taught at Mount Albert School from 1923 and taught languages at Mount Albert Grammar School from 1925. Introduced soccer to the school. 1925 MA degree in Latin and French. Studied Greek also. Appointed lecturer in Classics at Auckland University College from 1927. Married to Kathleen Minnie Mitchell 13 Nov 1928. Moved to house in Mount Albert. Two sons. Moved to Titirangi 1945. From 1940 taught Greek. LittD degree 1946 from University of New Zealand. 1941 began writing newspaper column in Weekly News, the Sunday Herald, and New Zealand Herald. The weekly articles under pen-name Grammaticus continued until his death. 1947 appointed to chair of Classics and then to other offices. Produced many books on the historical background of the New Testament. Was a champion of "traditional belief" in opposition to liberal theologians of the times. 1968 Retired from the university, continued to write and travel, especially as a guide to the Middle East. 1974 awarded OBE for "services to scholarship and the community."
