INFO | OBITUARY. Sanford Express [Sanford, North Carolina] 15 November 1912 - "Death of Mrs. E. E. Adkins. Mrs. Mary Smith Adkins, wife of Mr. E.E. Adkins, passed into the beyond on last Sunday at the age of 53 years. She had been a great sufferer for more than two years, but bore her pain with that patience and fortitude that only the children of the most high God can possess. She had been a member of the M.E. Church, South, since girlhood, and her body was interred in the cemetery at Poplar Springs church on Monday afternoot [sic] at 3 o’clock. The funeral was conducted by Rev. G. R. Underwood. The pall bearers were: Messrs C. T. Gunter, Cyrus Caddell, T. R. Moffitt, G.C. Hill, H.D. Byrd and O.C. Hill. Mrs. Adkins is survived by her husband and five children, Messrs. Fulton, Eugene and William Adkins, Mrs. Beaula McFarland and Miss Bessie Adkins; two brothers, Mr. Mack Brown and Mr. Archie Brown; three sisters, Mrs. J.J. Campbell, Mrs. Jordan F. Sloan and Mrs. J.R. Kelly. At the earnest request of his mother, Mr. William Adkins, the youngest son, set his wedding day and was married only a few days before her death.
