"Petition of Thomas Shrewsbury Farmar of 28 King David Lane Shadwell in the County of Middlesex Police Constable". ... states that he was married to Mary Ross 22 Oct 1860, that he cohabited with his wife at Rathbone Place Macey Road Plumstead Kent and at various places in Kent, Surrey, and Middlesex, and there is no issue of the marriage. From 13 March to 22 May 1876 at No.5 Alice Cottages Plaistow Road,West Ham Essex, "the said Mary Farmar and William Neville lived together as man and wife and on divers occasions committed adultery together." He petitions to dissolve the marriage. signed by Thomas Shrewsbury Farmar. File includes the marriage certificate. 10 Jun 1878 response from co-respondent William Neville via his solicitor Thomas Willis. Neville denies the adultery, was "ignorant that the said Mary Farmar was a married woman." . . . 16 July 1978 - case ordered to be "heard by oral evidence before the Court itself." 18 Feb 1879 - "Petitioner in person set down the Cause & filed Notice." 4 Mar 1879 "Petitioner in person issued subpoena ad test." Document from High Court of Justice Probate, Divorce, and Admiralty Division (Divorce) before the Right Honorable Sir James Hannen ... 15 March 1879. Has heard "oral evidence of the Petitioner and the Witnesses produced on his behalf .. . and having heard Counsel thereon on behalf of the Co-Respondent, the Respondent not appearing and defending the suit ... the marriage is dissolved by reason of the adultery committed by the respondent since the celebration of the said marriage. " Decree to be absolute within Six Months. 5 Nov 1879 - " Petitioner in person filed affidavit of himself & Case for Motion".
