INFO OBITUARY. Dover Express, 15 Jul 1932, p.9. Death of Mr. H.J. Atkins, One who Helped to Develop Capel. "We regret to record the death, early last Saturday morning, of Mr. Henry John Atkins, builder, of Capel, at the age of 89 years. Mr. Atkins had a big share in developing the village of Capel. When he came there it was a small village with about a dozen houses, much as it was for many centuries before. Now Capel is quite a large township with numerous bungalows, many of which Mr. Atkins built. He was the founder of Capel School, and he collected all the funds himself. He was churchwarden for a number of years. He represented the village on the Dover Rural District Council from 1900 to 1923. The funeral took place at Capel on Thursday afternoon, the officiating clergyman being the Rev. D. Morgan, Vicar of Alkham with Capel-le-Ferne. The mourners present were: -- Henry and Fanny, Alfred and Harriet, William and Sarah (sons and daughters-in-law), Ellen and Frank, Grace and Fred (daughters and sons-in-law), Fanny (daughter). . ." [The obituary includes a long list of those who sent floral tributes.] (DovExpresFMP.)
