INFO OBITUARY. Evening Post. 20 July 1934. p.9 Mrs. Ellen Farmar. Blenheim. The death has occurred at Christchurch of Mrs. Ellen Farmar, aged 93, widow of the late Mr. F. T. Farmar, a former Mayor of Blenheim. The deceased lady arrived in Nelson with her parents by the ship Olympus in 1842, and married Mr. Farmar in 1859. In the following year they came to Blenheim, where Mr. Farmar engaged in business as a cordial manufacturer. They resided here for 74 years, and took up residence in Christchurch in 1906. The old lady had vivid recollections of the hardships of the Nelson pioneers and remembered the Wairau massacre. Sons of the late Mrs. Farmar are Mr. J. B. Farmar (Blenheim), Captain Frank Farmar (of the steamer Port Fairey), Mr. Charles Farmar (Canterbury), and Mesdames H.W. Horton (Blenheim), R. Scott (Blenheim), A. Nairn (Christchurch), S. Broadbent (King Country) are daughters. There are 20 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren. (EvenPostPP.)
